Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecular Chemistry of Ministry of Education

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecular Chemistry of Ministry of Education in Northwest University founded in 2007, is based on the Key Lab of Physical Inorganic Chemistry, Key Lab of Shaanxi Analytical Science and Key Lab of Shaanxi Separation Science, including Institute of New materials Science and Technology, Institute of Chemical Biology, Research Center for Analysis and Testing, Research Center for Green Chemistry and Technology, Research & Development Center for Pesticides and Institute of New Drug. Professor Qiu, Shilun, from Jilin University, is the academic committee director, and Professor Wang, Yaoyu,  from the College of Chemistry and Materials Science of Northwest University,  serves as the director of the laboratory.

Team’s Current Situation
1 senior academician of CAS, 2 nationally outstanding teachers, 30 full professors (26 Ph.D, student advisors), 15 visiting professors and 32 associate professors. Among the academic and technical staffs, there are famous chemists of old generation and more middle-aged academic leaders. The degrees and professional titles are reasonable. More than 70%of teachers were graduated abroad or non-Northwest University in domestic. All the teachers below 45 have Ph.D degree.

time-of-flight mass spectrometer, single-crystal X-ray diffractometers, nuclear magnetic resonance instrument, atomic absorption spectroscopy, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, elemental analyzer, ion chromatograph, high performance liquid chromatograph, gas chromatograph, Fourier transform infrared spectrum, fluorescence spectrometer, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer, plasma atomic emission spectrometry etc.

Research Orientation
(1)development of advanced inorganic functional materials and research on related important basic technical issues;
(2)theoretical and technical studies on separation and purification of biomacromolecule;
(3)the analytical science theory, method and application researches on molecular information and function system;
(4)the synthesis of green organic, biomedical materials and natural product chemistry.

Research Achievement
Since it is established, the team has undertaken more than 100 research projects, including 1 National Demonstration Project of the State Development and Reform Commission, 3 Torch-plan projects and National Key Technologies R&D Program, 22 National Natural Science Foundation of China and 2 National High Technology Research and Development Program of China. In the past five years, 12 research projects was given provincial or ministerial rewards, of which 4 were the first prize of Shaanxi Scientific and Technical Awards. More than 800 research papers have been published, of which 393 have been cited by Science Citation Index (SCI) databases. 10 textbooks and monographs were published as well.

Construction Target
Based on western area, inheriting and developing traditional features and advantages, the Lab aims at the frontier of technology and focuses on discipline crossing and integration of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry and polymer chemistry with materials and life science. At the same time, the Lab tries to further deepen and expand the research on functional molecular chemistry, and to develop a series of key basic research and application achievements with zone resource advantage of West China. Furthermore, the Lab exerts itself to make some of the research field and orientations reach the domestic and international advanced level. The Lab also aims to be a cultivating center for innovative talents and the gathering place for outstanding talents from basic research to R&D of innovative and high technology in West China.

Wang, Yaoyu

Prof. Wang’s group has five teachers and fifteen graduate students. The research interests of the group mainly focus on the functional coordination chemistry and materials chemistry.

The group has started to explore a totally new field about molecular braid, synthesized the first case of novel [4]-crossing catenane coordination polymer, and found the catalyst of decarboxylation in the in situ reaction.
